The Other Side of the Tracks: A Socially Speaking commentary

October 19, 2010

By Perry Redd

If it were a comedy, it would be funny; but since it’s real life, it isn’t.  The Democrats are the party of boring…it has been proven that the Republican right is the party of outrageousness! Party animals!  They present America with a new dramatic scene every week!  Whether it’s the Tea Party favorites or the mainstream right, these people are absolute clowns—they’d put Cirque du Soleil to shame!  Who could come up with this stuff?

What am I talkin’ about?  I’m saying that every week, the Republicans do something else stupid; if the Democrats hadn’t inherited such a mess, they’d not even have to campaign! Let’s take a look at the election season of 2010:

  • Oct 8th– Rep. Mark Kirk (R-IL) running for the U.S. Senate is caught on a secretly-recorded tape talking about how to suppress the black vote;
  • Oct 5th– A federal judge in Georgia (a Reagan Republican) has been arrested on drug and weapons charges after federal agents say he bought drugs for a stripper with whom he was having an affair;
  • Oct 1st – Republican gubernatorial candidate from New York, Carl Paladino criticized gays, saying he didn’t want children “to be brainwashed into thinking that homosexuality is an equally valid or successful option,” compared to heterosexuality; If you’ve acknowledged fathering a daughter out of wedlock, it’s probably not the best idea to accuse your opponent of infidelity — without evidence — then promise to lay off the subject, then do it again. It may not be the wisest political strategy to denounce your opponent for marching in a gay pride parade and complain about homosexuals being brainwashed when your son owns a gay club! And that’s without getting into the racist and pornographic e-mails that Paladino forwarded…and he wants to win!
  • Sep 29th – Republican gubernatorial candidate in California, Meg Witman’s housekeeper is revealed as an illegal immigrant—when Witman rails against illegal immigration!
  • Sep 29th – Andrew Shirvell, an assistant attorney general for the state of Michigan, has waged an internet campaign against college student Chris Armstrong, the openly gay student assembly president at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor…doesn’t he have criminals to prosecute?
  • Sep 21st– After losing to rival Joe Miller in the GOP gubernatorial primary, Lisa Murkowski decided to run as a write-in candidate in November against Miller
  • Sep 20th -Delaware GOP Senate nominee Christine O’Donnell refused to answer specific questions about allegations she misused funds from her previous campaign—for her rent and mattresses—and tried to downplay their significance.
  • Sep 14th – the impeachment trial of federal judge G. Thomas Porteous Jr. The judge is accused of corruption and accepting kickbacks, as well as lying about his past…
  • Sep 14- back to Republican gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman…she was never a registered voter before 2002 and hadn’t voted in 18 years!  And we’re to  believe that she’s an example of civic participation—and she wants us to vote for her???
  • Sep 1st -Florida preacher, Terry Jones wanted to evoke “Burn a Quran” day
  • Aug 22-Evangelist Franklin Graham said “I think the president’s problem is that he was born a Muslim,” when any person with half a brain knows that that has nothing to do with now!  And even more, it isn’t true!
  • Aug 21st – Carl Paladino calls for welfare recipients to be housed in former prisons
  • Aug 19th – Republicans oppose the building of a Islamic Cultural Center near Ground Zero—and make a Constitutional issue into a political one—alienating a voting block;
  • July- Hid their RNC Chairman
  • May 25th – Republican candidate for Idaho’s Congressman Ward plagiarized one of the most famous speeches in political history — Barack Obama‘s address to the Democratic National Convention in 2004;
  • Mar 20th – Rand Paul would repeal the Civil Rights Act

I mean, come on!  This is election season and these people purport to want to win!  I can’t believe that people even claim to be associated with this band of clowns, going by the name Republicans.  Not only are they undisciplined, but it’s clear that, as an ideological faction, they are a clear contradiction.

One thing for sure, you’ll never be bored by the antics of this party.  They’re outrageous every week!
